Mum invited us round for dinner and my sister Laura cooked a really nice Chili. Here’s her recipe: -
- Minced Beef
- Onions
- Garlic
- Stock Cube
- Paprika
- Cocoa Powder
- Tinned Chopped Tomatoes
- Brown Sugar
- Courgettes/Peppers
- Chili Powder (or a real birds-eye chili)
Fry up some onions and garlic, stick in the mince and while its browning chuck in the stock cube chili powder, some paprika and some cocoa powder. Once browned add in the chopped tomatoes, brown sugar, and chopped up veg. Add some water if its too thick and simmer till the veg is cooked! Season with salt/pepper to taste.
Now I’m not saying that this was better than MY chili… but it comes close
Just for the record, here’s my own concoction:
- Minced Beef
- Onions
- Garlic
- Red Wine
- Stock Cube
- Birds-eye chili
- Ground Nutmeg
- Ground Cinammon (tiny bit)
- Cumin seeds (only a few)
- Tomato Ketchup
- Tomato Puree
- Tinned Chopped Tomatoes
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Red/Green Peppers
- Lemon or Lime Juice
- Dried Sultanas/Raisins
Fry up onions and garlic, add the mince and start to brown it. While browning add some red wine and a stock cube. Once browned add all the other ingredients except the Cherry Tomatoes and sultanas – these get added about 10 mins before you’re ready to eat. Yum!
